The Studio of Collaboration: A cross-curricular primary school project
Taking inspiration from the cross-curricular and collaborative nature of an artists practice, this project considers ways that local primary schools, artists and the community can crossover, using the school and gallery as a creative site of production, engaging with art at the heart of learning.
We will be working with artists Beverley Bennett and Lydia CS who will take up creative residence in Kingsgate Primary School and ARK Franklin Primary Academy for the full academic year. The schools will also use Camden Arts Centre as a platform to discuss and create, engaging with our exhibitions and the artists on show.
By facilitating opportunities for pupils to develop a sense of ownership in their local area and at CAC we will enable students to question what it means to belong in or to a place and as such examine their understanding of the world around them.
We are ambitious in our vision to create a culture shift and social change in relation to art in schools and want to empower and support schools in a creative curriculum. Working in close dialogue with teachers the project will enable meaningful engagement across the whole school and will consider arts effect on health and wellbeing, with a focus on confidence, communication, self-esteem and leadership.
The project is currently supported by The Garcia Family Foundation (UK) Ltd. We are grateful to John Lyons Charity and The Chapman Trust for their support for our Education programme.
