Film Screening: No Idea But in Things

26 April 2015

Sunday 26 April
4.00 - 5.45pm

A screening of No Idea But in Things (Hauke Harder and Viola Rusche, 2012), a documentary on the life and work of American composer Alvin Lucier, whose works draw on the everyday in an understated and poetic way.

The documentary accompanies the American composer Alvin Lucier (b 1931) on concert travels to The Hague (Netherlands) and Zug (Switzerland), as he comments on his œuvre – from his early live electronics performances up to the premiere of his ensemble piece Panorama 2 in 2011. One of Lucier’s key works, I Am Sitting in a Room (1969), is introduced as a central structuring device in the film. Visited at his home in Middletown, Connecticut, Lucier offers rare insights into the beginnings of his pioneering works.

This event is part of the Do-It-Yourself series curated by artist-in-residence, Song-Ming Ang.
