1 October 2017 - 14 January 2018
Taking up residence in the Drawing Studio, Soofiya will lead Studio Takeover, our weekly drop-in programme for families, leading creative activities inspired by our exhibitions Nathalie Du Pasquier Other Rooms and Christian Nyampeta Words after the World. Soofiya’s workshops will draw out key themes, ideas and techniques from these exhibitions, focusing on pattern, design, typography, language and composition.
Soofiya is a graphic designer, illustrator and design educator. Their art practice articulates a commentary on gender, race, politics and bodies through a radical social and anarchist approach. Their practice utilises a variety of forms, including but not limited to, zines, book arts, writing, collaborations and workshops to deconstruct narratives. A selection of past work has looked at menstruation, radical listening, anger, fear, being lost and found. With a love of bright colour, neon aesthetics and big ideas both Soofiya and their work aim to dissent, disrupt and resist.
Soofiya’s work has been showcased internationally, from Tate to Parsons School of Design in New York, as well as being featured in the Guardian, Metro, Independent and Autostraddle among others. Read more.
