Book Launch: Ben Rivers

To launch his first monograph Ways of Worldmaking, artist Ben Rivers and design and art collective åbäke discuss the book with Sophie Williamson, Programme Curator: Exhibitions at Camden Arts Centre. This book has been made in conjunction with Rivers’ recent exhibition at Camden Arts Centre, Earth Needs More Magicians with new essays by writers Ed Halter, Melissa Gronland, Renee Gladman and Andréa Picard, alongside transcripts and research material. This talk will be followed by a book signing.

This book has been designed by åbäke and published by Mousse Publishing in collaboration with Camden Arts Centre, Kunstverein in Hamburg, The Renaissance Society at the University of Chicago and La Triennale di Milano.

Ben Rivers (b. 1972, Somerset) lives and works in London. Selected solo exhibitions include: Renaissance Society, Chicago, (2016) (upcoming), Islands, Kunstverein, Hamburg (2016), The Two Eyes Are Not Brothers, The Whitworth, Manchester (2016) and Artangel Open Commission (2013), Television Centre, White City, London, (2015), Earth Needs More Magicians, Camden Arts Centre, London (2015), Fable, Temporary Gallery, Cologne (2014), Ben Rivers, Hepworth Wakefield (2012), Sack Barrow, Hayward Gallery Project Space, London (2011) and Slow Action, Matt’s Gallery, London (2011).  He has been the recipient of numerous prizes including: FIPRESCI International Critics Prize, 68th Venice Film Festival (2011) for his first feature film Two Years At Sea; his second feature film, A Spell to Ward Off The Darkness, was made in collaboration with Ben Russell and won the New Visions Award at CPH:DOX in 2013 and his third feature The Sky Trembles and the Earth is Afraid and The Two Eyes Are Not Brothers recently premiered at Locarno and Toronto Film Festivals.
