Sound and Sculpture for 5-7s

13 - 16 February 2018

Tuesday 13 - Friday 16 February, 2.00pm - 4.30pm

This course offers children the opportunity to work with a range of materials, to create their own sculptural instruments and consider ideas around sound, such as pitch, score and rhythm. Participants will be provided with a playful and experimental setting to consider the creative potential of sound through mark making, performance, and gesture in response to themes from the exhibition A Continuous Becoming by Giorgio Griffa. All materials are provided and there will be a performance and showcase of artworks on the last day for friends and family to attend.

This course will take place in the afternoon. There is an option for your child to spend the whole day at the Centre by taking the Clay course in the morning. Children booked onto both courses are eligible for free lunchtime care.

Rita Evans will be leading this course. Rita is an artist and musician who graduated from Chelsea College of Art and Design with an MA in Fine Art in 2009. In 2017 Rita has been working on major project Matrices, Tensions, Sound = Sculptures that received an Arts Council England production grant and Instrument Structures for which she has received a Canada Council for the Arts Media Production Grant. She was awarded the Stephen Cripps' Studio Award 2014/15 an Acme Studios Award, (supported by the Henry Moore Foundation, Royal Opera House, Backstage Centre and Stephen Cripps' Family), for artists working in sculpture with elements of movement, sound and light.
