The Drawn Portrait

This course offers the opportunity to explore portrait drawing in colour and monochrome, working from life models and secondary resources. Participants will use a wide range of media including specialist pencils, oil pastels and charcoal in order to develop their observational drawing skills, focusing on elements such as expression, proportion and detail. This course is suitable for all levels and abilities.

Jake Spicer will lead this course. Jake is a painter, tutor and author of a series of books on drawing; he is Head Tutor at Draw (Brighton) and a co-director of the Drawing Circus. Jake's work focuses on the figure and on using drawing as a means of exploring the visual world.

Concessionary fees are available to attendees who are in receipt of housing and council tax benefits, income support, jobseeker’s allowance or a state pension, full time students with NUS cards or those who are registered as disabled.

  • As part of the enrolment procedure, all participants must complete a registration form.
  • Bookings are non-refundable and non-transferable, unless the course is cancelled by the Centre.
  • Evidence of concessionary status must be shown on the first day of the course.
  • 5 week courses run twice. Please only book a single place on one of the two courses to ensure as many people as possible are able to participate.
