21 September - 30 November 2017
This course offers an in-depth look at more advanced ceramic techniques. Through discussion and demonstration students will gain a better understanding of finishing ceramic pieces using developed building and decoration techniques. This course is suitable for those with some experience of ceramics who want to extend their knowledge and skills.
The course will be broken down into a series of demonstrations and small practical projects that will include:
• Creating and using coloured clays
• Making ceramic stamps
• Majolica: patterns on unfired glaze
Lydia Hardwick will lead this course. Lydia graduated from the Royal College of Art in 2013. Primarily using clay, her practice engages with formal aspects of sculptural ceramics, in addition to the creation of design objects. Her interests focus on ideas surrounding instinct, and considering the point between made and unmade. She recently collaborated with Turner Prize winners Assemble on their Granby Four Streets project, which was exhibited at Tramway in Glasgow, Scotland. Read more
