Windows are a recurring motif in the work of Anna Barriball where they denote the barrier between the interior and exterior world. Here a window from a found photograph is isolated and pressed heavily into the paper using a photogravure process. We look through the window but rather than an interior space we find a landscape and horizon line formed by the reflection in the windows glass. In the lower left a flower appears where the interior curtain fabric meets with the surrounding landscape.
