Yuk King Tan - Camden Art Centre

Yuk King Tan

Yuk King Tan’s first exhibition in the UK develops an ongoing series of works using Chinese firecrackers, fuse wire and smoke. Wall drawings recreate fragments of linear artworks – from Japanese woodblocks to the prints of Albrecht Durer – by stringing together tiny firecrackers on the wall. Once alight, they fill the gallery with smoke, noise and smell, charring the wall with burn marks. Fuse wire works transgress architectural spaces leaving traces of scorching across walls, floors and ceilings.

Yuk King Tan was born in Australia in 1971, and grew up, studied and works in New Zealand. Yuk King Tan exhibits regularly in New Zealand, Australia and Hong Kong.
