Schedule of events

Screening & Publication Launch: Camden Garden Centre
Wednesday 20 April, 7.00 – 9.00pm

A publication launch party and film screening exploring the notion of the garden as a landscape of recreation and pleasure. Visitors will drift between the interior and exterior spaces at CAC, engaging with the sculptural objects, text and a film triggering different imagined projections about the idea of fictional garden landscapes.

Including works by Phoebe Baines, Milly Peck, Miguel Soto, Paula Linke, Seth Pimlott, Hoyeon Kang, Eugenie Scrasse

Live: Sweat
Saturday 23 April, 2.00 – 3.00pm & 3.30 – 4.30pm

Sweat is the excretion of perspiration through the pores of the skin, an abject product of exertion and an essential function to maintain internal regulation. During this performance, physical works, bodily actions and recorded sounds will amalgamate to form a sculptural performance where contortions of the body stretch out in all manner of forms.

Our bodies are continually morphing and changing, ageing, dying, absorbing and perspiring, mixing our biologies when in contact with other objects and people – a porosity through perspiration. Yet the bodily ambitions of advertising and commerce evoke a limitless body, ever smooth and supple, glossy and contained to the boundary of screens and pages so it is endlessly editable (as Addidas’ slogan declares 'Impossible is Nothing').

In Vedic Sanskrit, Yoga means to 'to add', 'to join' or 'to unite' placing an emphasis on physical exercise with spiritual and meditative roots. Sweat presents the conjoining of nine sculptural artworks and bodies, drawing on corporal practises that relate to spirituality as well as the health and leisure industries. During this performance, physical works, bodily actions and recorded sounds will amalgamate to form a sculptural performance where contortions of the body stretch out in all manner of forms.

Including works by Sheena Leach, Mette Boel, Doujin Kim, Caroline Mackenzie, Alicia Tsigarides, Jin He Park, Leah Carless, Julia Parkinson, Holly Hendry

(8) Garden Gate
Sunday 24 April, 2.00 – 6.00pm

‘That’s not how it happened’, they said in unison, in different pitch, accent, and volume. That was something they agreed on; their disparate voices telling the same stories of the times they spent together.

This research experiment aims to navigate the intricacies of working in a temporary collective. It explores the dialogue of a collaboration, not as a way to reach consensus but rather to use it as a shared vehicle that hosts our divergent ideas and interpretations of a journey.

The collective will communicate its findings through a multi-faceted installation; the outcome, a reimagining of the notion of documentation as a singular truth. Weaving together arguments, agreements, moments of realisation, altered mind states, tangents, stories and facts; forming versions of the ‘original’.

Eight screens will display eight descriptions of the process of collaboration.

Artists: Finn Thomson, Emily Price, Duncan Jeffs, Nayoung Kang, Clara Walsh, Heeuk Kim, Jenna Finch
