The Grantchester Pottery is an artistic collaboration between Phil Root and Giles Round producing artwork alongside functional and decorative objects. Taking up Camden Arts Centre’s 2016 Ceramics Fellowship, The Grantchester Pottery revisit and expand a recent body of work intended as a source book of vernacular design. These works developed for the exhibition Studio Wares at David Dale Gallery, Glasgow, will be utilised as a learning tool and the basis for further production.
Throughout the duration of the Fellowship, alongside the production of new work, the collective will develop a series of public programme events and open studio days to examine questions that arise through the nature of collaboration. These events extend both the group’s ideas and those of their historic precedents such as Omega Workshops Ltd, Hammer Prints Ltd and Memphis, to look at authorship and the boundary between art and design. More information on these events will be released shortly.
