It's Ok to be Boring - Camden Art Centre

It’s Ok to be Boring

Simon Raven was awarded the 2012 Adam Reynolds Memorial Bursary. Raven’s multi-disciplinary practice encompasses performance, painting, filmmaking and music. For this residency he continued to develop concerns within his practice around performance, futility and achievement as well as a series of new works both in the Artists’ Studio and off-site. These will engage with the history of Camden Arts Centre’s previous incarnation as a public library, the music culture of Camden Town and the proximity of the Artists’ Studio to the Freud Museum on Maresfield Gardens. Members of the public will be able to visit the Studio and find out more about Raven’s work through a series of Open Studios and other events.

As part of an ongoing project within the residency Raven created a psychoanalytical space within the Artists’ Studio where it’s OK to be boring, in which visitors are invited to share a boring story told to camera. The Studio will be open between 2.00 – 4.00pm daily.

The Adam Reynolds Memorial Bursary, supported by Shape, began in 2007 at Camden Arts Centre as one of the most significant commissioning opportunities for disabled artists in the UK and over the past five years has been hosted by Bluecoat, Spike Island and BALTIC. The 2012 residency at Camden Arts Centre marks the beginning of the next five year cycle.
