Programme:
Smoke Firing Ceramics with artist Dan Stafford
Garden
1.30 – 2.30pm & 3.00 – 4.00pm
Firing at 4.00pm
Dan Stafford will demonstrate how to create smoky, rich surface decoration for ceramics using the technique of Smoke Firing. Drop-in during the set times to create your own pieces, then return for a collaborative firing at 4.00pm.
Sound Performances with artist Tom Richards
Artists’ Studio
2.00pm, 3.00pm & 4.00pm
Tom Richards will present three 30-minute performances over the course of the afternoon: Mini Oramics Workshop (2.00pm), Mini Oramics Performance (3.00 pm) and Live Electronic Music performance (4.00 pm). Mini Oramics is a drawn-sound synthesiser originally designed circa 1976 by Daphne Oram (1925–2003).

Jonathan Baldock invites the public into his studio at Camden Arts Centre to see works-in-progress developed during his residency.
About the artists:
Jonathan Baldock is a London-based artist with a multidisciplinary practice incorporating sculpture, painting, textiles and performance. Recent solo exhibitions include There’s No Place Like Home, CGP, London (2017), My biggest fear is that someone will crawl into it, SPACE, London (2017), Love Life: Act 2 (touring 2 person show with Emma Hart), PEER Gallery (2016-17) and The Grundy, Blackpool (2017), Jonathan Baldock, OneWorkGallery, Vienna (2017), The Skin I Live in, Nicelle Beauchene, New York (2016), SUCKERZ, (two-person show with Emma Hart), L’Etrangere, London (2015), Notes from the Orifice, VITRINE Gallery, London (2014) and The Soft Machine, Chapter Gallery, Cardiff (2014). Recent group exhibitions include Idea Home Show. MIMA, Middlesborough, (2017), Offshore, Hull Maritime Museum, Hull, (2017) and Conversation Piece / Part 3, Fondazione Memmo, Rome (2016).
Rita Evans is an artist based in London since 2004, completing her MA in Fine Art at Chelsea College in 2009. Since then, Rita has presented at residencies, performances and exhibitions internationally. In 2018 Rita received a Canada Council for the Arts New Media Grant for Instrument Sculptures and in 2017 an Arts Council England Grant for Matrices + Tensions = Sculpture while in residence at Chisenhale Dance Space, London. In 2015 Rita was awarded the Stephen Cripps’ Studio Award, a major Acme Residency & Awards Programme funded by The Henry Moore Foundation, Royal Opera House, High House Production Park Ltd and Stephen Cripps’s family. The award is for artists working with sound, movement and light.
Tom Richards is an artist, musician, DJ, and instrument designer based in London UK. Richards has built his own idiosyncratic modular electronic music system, with which he creates slowly evolving and heavily textured polyrhythmic improvisations. He has performed and exhibited widely in the UK, as well as internationally in the US, Germany, Peru, Singapore, Japan and Sweden.
Dan Stafford is an experienced ceramic artist who makes hand-built architectural ceramics pieces using earthenware, slips and glazes. Dan has worked in many educational contexts including a tutor and technician at Camden Arts Centre.
