Special Education Needs Schools Programme - Camden Art Centre

Special Education Needs Schools’ Programme

Special Education Needs Schools’ Programme

Camden Arts Centre’s Special Educational Needs Schools Programme works in collaboration with young people, teachers and artists. This project addresses the lack of access for people with learning disabilities to creative experiences, learning and careers in the visual arts.

The programme aims to increase creative opportunities within the arts for people with profound and multiple learning disabilities; to foster a sense of belonging at Camden Arts Centre and to encourage confidence and independence through collaborative activities that champion all forms of communication and self-expression.

For the 2018/19 academic year artists India Harvey, Andrew Omoding and Sean Roy Parker will work with teachers and young people from Mapledown School, Swiss Cottage School and Woodfield School across the boroughs of Camden, Brent and Barnet.

It is our vision, along with the support of ActionSpace as a partner, to improve access and opportunities to the arts for artists and young people with learning disabilities, and to increase participation, education and training provision.

The year culminates in an exhibition of students’ work and a series of events in July 2019.

The project is currently supported by The Big Give, The Childhood Trust, City Bridge Trust, David Solomons Trust, The Dischma Charitable Trust, John Horniman's Children's Trust, The Ernest Cook Trust, The Goldsmiths Company Charity, The Sobell Foundation and The Herefordshire Community Foundation. We are grateful to John Lyons Charity and The Chapman Trust for their support for our Education programme.
