Experiments for Change - Camden Art Centre

Experiments for Change

Experiments for Change is a project with year three pupils from St. Aloysius Junior School. Pupils will work with artist Viyki Turnbull, combining processes in art making with scientific enquiry, from painting upside down and making a ‘specific mess’ to testing different forces for flattening 3-D constructions. Pupils take inspiration from our exhibition Painting on Unknown Languages by René Daniëls, visiting the exhibition twice and developing discussion and ideas further in sessions at the school.

The project is in partnership with Camden Council’s Out of School Learning department, and through evaluation with Camden Council the project will generate a case study of how contemporary art can inform teaching practices and curriculum content. In 2011, Camden Arts Centre will work with Viyki Turnbull to deliver a series of inset days in schools developing the project into a teacher training opportunity. During these inset sessions in schools, Camden Arts Centre will take forward learning points in the case study, offering teachers an artist designed toolkit and generating ideas together around the use of contemporary art in the classroom.
