Family Artist-in-Residence - Camden Art Centre

London-based artist Lateisha Davine Lovelace-Hanson was our Family Artist-in-Residence during Beatrice Gibson’s exhibition Crone Music.

Working predominantly in the mediums of theatre and poetry her practice is visual, playful and cosmic.

Her work concerns ideas of liberation, growth and human connection as a form of Afro-Diasporic creative resistance. Her practice makes use of spiritual tools and is rooted in methods such as story-telling, movement, and spoken word, seeking to empower individual ideas and actions while creating time and space for personal, collective and environmental healing from colonial trauma.

She is Artistic Leader of Hit The Ground – a collective theatre project and producing space working towards social awareness and social justice. She is currently producing and facilitating a new workshop series at Platform Southwark called ‘How Do We Live Now’, exploring the present-self, liberated forms and collective purpose as decolonial action. She has also co-produced events with Actors For Human Rights about the UK Asylum System as well as participated in residencies at Free Word Centre, Lyric Hammersmith and the Barbican.

During the residency, Lovelace-Hanson took up residence in the Drawing Studio and lead Family Takeover, our weekly drop-in programme for families, leading creative activities inspired by the exhibition Crone Music by Beatrice Gibson.

Events

Family Takeover: Lateisha Davine Lovelace-Hanson

Sundays, 2.00 – 4.30pm

Every Sunday throughout the exhibitions, families can drop-in to the Drawing Studio and galleries to take part in free, creative and fun activities led by our Family Artist-in-Residence Lateisha Davine Lovelace-Hanson. Families are invited to work together through a series of activities using poetry, spoken word, and story-telling to create collaborative outcomes in response to key themes from Crone Music, an exhibition by Beatrice Gibson. Join us for sessions where we will work with ideas of ritual, movement and collectivity to consider the questions, stories and myths of life itself.

Family Takeover is suitable for children of all ages and materials are provided free of charge, but donations are welcomed.
The space is wheelchair accessible. For further information about access at Camden Arts Centre, please see here.
