India Harvey is an artist working and researching in the fields of participatory art practice, landscapes of play, constructed textiles and Neurodiversity. Their current work is concerned with communicating connections between these worlds, and challenging visual engagement as the dominant mode of experiencing art through mainly tactile or non-verbal interventions.
The privileging of sight over touch/taste/smell can restrict and often exclude the involvement of some people in processes of artistic production and engagement. The exploration and development of alternative sensory processes in art is central to the way India makes both participatory and studio based work.
India graduated from Capellagården Folkhögskla for Fine Crafts in 2014 and Kingston University in 2012. Recent exhibitions include solo shows UMANO UNIVERSALE, London 2016, The International Science Fair, Edinburgh 2015 and the Neurosci-arts group show Art Neuro in collaboration with UCL. Since 2015 India has worked as an artist facilitator with South London Gallery, The Arnolfini (Bristol), National Portrait Gallery and offsite projects with Focal Point (Southend) and ABP Autograph.
Every Sunday throughout the exhibitions families are invited to take over the Drawing Studio and engage in creative activities led by our Family Artist-in-Residence India Harvey.
Taking inspiration from the exhibitions, families will have the opportunity to use all their senses to unravel the process of cloth making, build their own hand tools and test the possibilities of materials and fibres.
Suitable for all ages and materials are provided free of charge, but donations are invited.
