Creative Writing - Camden Art Centre

Creative Writing

Exploring ways into creative writing with artist and writer Patrick Coyle, this course offers the opportunity to experiment with different writing techniques and devices. Students will leave with a compilation of written pieces, new strategies for writing and a chance to use the group as an audience for testing new ideas. This is an excellent course for beginners and those looking for creative stimulation and feedback in their writing practice.

The class will consider how a text might be performed as much as how it is written, employing specific constraints in the production and presentation of new writing. Activities will include timed writing exercises, reading to each other, rewriting another author’s work, audio and video recordings of presentations, writing with objects, presenting work from memory, through song, dialogue, and producing writing while travelling.

Participants will investigate themes of comedy, anxiety and awkwardness, and address issues such as writer’s block and procrastination. They will also explore alternative forms of publishing and print an edited pamphlet of writing produced throughout the course.
