Daniel Sturgis - Camden Art Centre

Daniel Sturgis

Daniel Sturgis showed three new paintings which follow from an on-site residency at the Centre in May 1997. Sturgis has created startling paintings from seemingly dysfunctional colour associations. Although he refers to his work as abstract, he uses stylised flower imagery that seems drawn from the world of populist commercial culture. The rendering of these awkward concentric designs through to a high-art aesthetic only enhances their ‘jarring splendour.’
