Clay for 5-7s - Camden Art Centre

Clay for 5-7s

Tuesday 13 – Friday 16 February, 10.30am – 1.00pm

This course offers children the opportunity to discover the varied properties of clay, working with the material in its different forms as liquid, solid and powder. Participants will focus on hand building and coiling techniques in order to create objects in response to themes from the exhibition A Continuous Becoming by Giorgio Griffa.

Participants will work with specialist clay tools and other everyday materials to creatively consider rhythm, gesture and sequence through decorative techniques including imprinting and mark making. Final works will be glazed and fired in our on-site kilns. All materials are provided and there will be a showcase of artworks on the last day for friends and family to attend.

This course will take place in the morning. There is an option for your child to spend the whole day at the Centre by taking the Sound & Sculpture course in the afternoon. Children booked onto both courses are eligible for free lunchtime care.

Emily Stapleton Jefferis will be leading this course. Emily is currently studying for an MA in Ceramics and Glass at the Royal College of Art. She is interested in the language of materials and the craft techniques used and practised in order to manipulate them. Emily has worked in China, Vietnam and Ethiopia; she recently completed a residency at Künstlerhaus Stadttöpferei Neumünster, Germany. Read more.
