Ceramics for 11-14s

Ceramics for 11-14s

13 January - 24 March 2018

This course offers young people a focused environment to develop skills and techniques through working with clay. Using the themes from the current exhibitions as a starting point, participants will produce a body of work with time to develop and reflect on making and individual practice. There will be an open studio showcase on the last day.
This course is suitable for beginners or those with some experience of clay. It is aimed at young people of secondary school age in Key Stage 3: Year groups 7, 8 and 9.

The course will be broken down into a series of demonstrations and practical projects that will include:

  • Throwing
  • Press moulding and slab work
  • A range of decorative techniques, including slip trailing and inlay

Claire Bevacqua will lead this course. Claire graduated from Camberwell College of Art in 2000 and has since set up her own studio for producing and teaching ceramics. She is particularly interested in hand built sculptural ceramics and lighting. Claire works with adults and children, leading numerous children’s workshops in galleries, community centres, art clubs and schools over the past 15 years. Read more
