Learn through hands on volunteering in the arts

Donate your time and become part of our very special creative group. You will make new friends, connect with different communities and learn, through a range of projects and activities. We reimburse volunteers for their travel and provide training, materials and tours ahead of each new exhibition. Volunteers receive a 10% discount in our café, bookshop and on our acclaimed courses and we can act as references for longstanding volunteers.

We have two variations of the volunteer role available:

Volunteer Tour Guide - Romanian Speaking (recruiting NOW)

We are currently recruiting Romanian speaking volunteers interested in leading Guided Tours of our upcoming exhibition: Geta Brătescu: The Studio: A Tireless, Ongoing Space. The exhibition runs from 7 April - 18 June 2017 and during this period we are looking to offer a series of bilingual exhibition tours. Can you speak Romanian? Are you interested in leading tours? No previous experience of Camden Arts Centre or public speaking is required as training will be provided.

If you would like more information and details about the time commitment and how to sign up to become a Volunteer Tour Guide - Romanian Speaking, please write an email to Shannon at volunteer@camdenartscentre.org. Please be aware that we can only take enquiries from volunteers who are fluent in both Romanian and English.

Volunteer Front of House Assistants (recruiting from April 2017)

We currently have a full team of Volunteer Front of House Assistants but recruit at regular intervals throughout the year. Why not join our mailing lists to keep up to date with our latest news, or pop in to meet current volunteers and see our latest exhibitions.

Volunteer Front of House Assistants are asked to commit to a minimum of 3 months of volunteering and we are more interested in working with volunteers who envisage staying for 6 - 12 months.

Please note that we do not except applications made outside of the recruitment periods and CVs sent will not be kept on file.

Applications to be Volunteer Front of House Assistants should only be made by volunteers with a desire to support the work of Camden Arts Centre or those who wish to meet new people and achieve a closer relationship with the exhibitions and visitors at Camden Arts Centre. Volunteering should not be undertaken as work experience or as a work placement and is not an internship. We do offer opportunities to be involved behind the scenes at Camden Arts Centre to further career development, skills and knowledge but this is only through our Youth Collective. Young people involved with our Youth Collective have the opportunity to gain Arts Award Gold, meet artists, shadow staff, programme events for young audiences and develop their own art practice.

If you are aged 25 or under and are looking to gain experience in the arts please click here to read more about our Youth Collective. Or, read on for more information about being a volunteer at Camden Arts Centre.

Being a Volunteer Front of House Assistant

What's Involved?

Volunteer Front of House Assistants donate a minimum of 4.5 hours a week between 9.30am and 6.30pm (with a 30 minute break), Tuesday – Sunday. They help us invigilate our gallery spaces, welcome visitors to the Centre and help them to gain a full appreciation of the exhibitions, events and projects. In addition to this Volunteer Front of House Assistants can share their passion for art by leading Guided Tours of the exhibitions and assisting with our Make & Do family workshops. After they have been volunteering for three months, Volunteer Front of House Assistants are invited to get involved with Testbed and attend a variety of workshops to help them programme their own event at Camden Arts Centre!
